DC day 2...

Andrea called last night at about 9:45 and our conversation went much better than the night before. It seemed quite in her room, she sounded tired but much happier than the night before.
Yesterday was the group photo in front of the Capitol blg. and Mt. Vernon. She said there was a lot of walking and the weather definitely felt "like winter all over again". Last night they did the evening tour of the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.

Today plans to be a full day and I may not hear from her until almost 11:00 pm! They tour the Capitol today, Washington Monument and Bureau of Engraving and Printing, dinner at Hard Rock and a show at the Kennedy Center.

I'll continue to keep you posted! :)

Day 1 DC update...

Andrea has arrived safely :) She called around 8:30 sunday night and the most I could get out of was "Mom, my butt hurts!" And that she couldn't find a quite place to call me from so she couldn't hear me. I hope tonight's phone call is more informative - I mean, we have readers who want to know how she's doing - right?! :o)
As soon as I hear more, I'll let you know.

And she's off!

(Andrea on right, her friend and roomie, Dakotah on left)
Andrea is off and away on her 8th grade field trip to Washington D.C.!
If the photo looks like it was taken in the dark....well, it was! Midnight to be exact. Which for some, that wouldn't be so bad, however, keep in mind, that we live about 40 min. away from school and I am NOT a night person. So we left our house around 11:00 pm and I was back in my cozy bed and fast asleep by 1:30 am. Departure went smoothly and we eagerly await her first phone call tonight. Today was mostly travel and dinner at a resaurant called Fudrucker's in VA. Tomorrow will be the photo op in front of the White House and Mt. Vernon. I'll try to post everyday to keep you up to date. She of course has two cameras with enough memory cards for about 900 photos. I just asked her to remember to pass her camera to someone else so she will be in the pictures sometimes! :)

Personally, I am busy busy preparing for my annual student art show. McKenna and all her fellow first graders will be performing a music concert the same week of my show, so if you are looking for something to do, come on out Friday, April 17th, art show open at 5:00, outdoor concert at 6:00. Bring lawn chairs!

Happy Spring Break to my dear friends on vacation! Think of me please, we are standardized testing this week!

Love to all!

Happy Saturday, Ya'll!

Mmmm, as you all know, welcome to my favorite morning :)

I'm actually on the interstate right now riding home after a lovely evening with good friends. (Ain't technology cool!)Last night Scott and I got to go out to see Scott's favorite hypnotist Doug McGraw. (You can visit his site here.) It's the funniest thing, but Scott likes to get hypnotised and it's great fun for us to watch. Although a little weird too, because just by a suggestion to Scott after 17 years of marriage he couldn't remember who I was! :)

Off to shop with Andrea some today to help her get ready for her Washington DC field trip. I don't know how we ever swung the money in the end, but I'm so glad for her that she'll get to go and have this experience. Two weeks, I'm sure we'll post photos.

Speaking of photos, hopefully I'll have some time to play this weekend and I'll post a new photo or two.

Have a good weekend everyone,
Melle

WOW!

I see by my little visitor's counter down there, that several of you have stopped by for a visit - thank you! I feel badly that there probably wasn't a new post for you to see.

It was a busy, busy week for me in the classroom. My students were painting and except for the day my wonderful mommy came to help - I was hoppin'! (And exhausted, especially w/ the time change.)

Our little socialite, McKenna once again had not one, but two birthday parties to attend and boy were they biggies - we didn't want to miss them. Saturday night was her very first sleepover, complete with making lip gloss, painting finger and toe nails and watching Camp Rock. She had a lot of fun. Then, thank you Kendra, because man-o-man, did my girls enjoy themselves at Kaycee's Webkinz themed birthday party. Raining pollen and all, we all had fun. :o)

I meant to write tonight just to point out that you may have noticed, for those of you who know me so well, I've been following my favorite children's author and illustrator's blog (Tomie dePaola) ever since I started blogging. However, low and behold, it finally occurred to me that perhaps other favorite authors are blogging...and sure enough, I've added two more to my favorites list, Eric Carle and Jan Brett. Just an FYI!

And a final thought for this evening - guess what - I'm so excited - I now have new carpet for my studio!!!

Well, for those who know me so well, okay, what I really mean is - I have a whole bunch of those carpet squares that someone donated to our school to place down on my garage floor......
Just use your imagination....it could be new carpet in my studio.....Mr. dePaola always says, "your imagination is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it gets"!

Love to all,
Melle

Here at the end of my most favorite day of the week, I did get to have a nice lunch with my mom, I did get to wash the car, I did find some of the photo edge borders I've been looking for and I did get to play with some of my photos :o)
Love to all,
Melle

Yipee! Saturday!

OMG - I'm sorry, I forgot to post last night.
I was definitely getting into the Friday night comfort zone of doing nothing.
As for Andrea's Friday outfit, I missed that photo as well. I have to confess, after the $$ we spent on the other days (you wouldn't think it'd add up to that much) I just couldn't bring myself to spend anymore on stuff she will never wear or use again. Friday was "spirit day" so she wore her school colors. She looked very nice, but nothing wild and crazy :).

Happy Saturday everyone! May you get to enjoy this beautiful weekend....
love, Melle

Now this one, I think she'd like :o)

Tomorrow, day 5 - spirit day - see you then - Melle

Wednesday, day three - "your favorite animal day"

Andrea said she wanted to be a cougar - this is the best we could do.

Stay tuned for tomorrow - "what to you want to be when you grow up"....

Tuesday, March 3rd (day two - Nerd Day)
Okay, now Andrea really will kill me if she finds out I'm posting these....she even said that in passing this morning..."mom, don't post these on your blog or something".
Actually what's scary...I don't know if she looks "nerdy" as much as she looks like me!

Stay tuned....tomorrow "Your favorite animal day" and Thursday - well, that one will be nice....

Warning! Scary photos!

Monday, March 2nd
Andrea's middle school does a theme a day "dress down" during this pre-FCAT week.
Today's theme "Pajama Day". I was not the photographer and boy Andrea would probably kill me if she knew I posted this photo. It's okay, the one of me is worse!
Also at school today, we at the Primary Center celebrated Dr. Seuss's Birthday, with a "mixed up day". McKenna had little piggy tales under that cute hat, she looked like Cindy-lu Who from Whoville.

I was gonna go Halloween, but loved the thought of wearing Scott's clothes over mine. I did wear a halloween necklace and easter earrings. Okay, not all that creative for an art teacher, but I still need the kids to take me seriously just a little!

Then we did the "try to take a picture of all three of us by holding the camera at arms reach" photo......told ya - too scary - but fun :)
Tomorrow McKenna and I are back to normal, but it's "Nerd Day" at the middle school. I'm sure that's not PC (politically correct) to say anymore - stay tuned....

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Well, here it is the end of the weekend (the saddest words) and I promised to post before it was over. Yesterday, I shared a few "random updates", tonight I leave you with a few random thoughts:

1. I did get to wash the car on that beautiful pre-Spring day yesterday.

2. I just turned on the heat cause the temperature will be cold tonight - crazy Florida weather!

3. Thanks to my mom, I now have some kick butt african/lion art ideas for my students to create for the month of March. I always have "kick-butt" ideas when my mom helps me :o).

4. We had breadfast for dinner tonight - yum - I love when we do that.

5. I finally found my favorite gum at Publix today!

6. I've thought of a children's book idea, well, it truly was a team effort, me, my mom and McKenna. Laura Numeroff (of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie fame) move over!

7. If you are ever at Mimi's, ask for Jim and only accept Jim as your waiter. You won't regret it.

8. I helped Andrea get ready for her "FCAT Spirit Week", I'll try to post a photo of her each day with that day's theme.

9. I did work on some of my photo stuff, just a little, see photo below

10. and, I've decided, before I leave this world, I truly want to go on a Tim Holtz scrapbooking cruise and if I can't do that, taking a class taught by Tim Holtz would be fine too.

Oh, and thought #11. our dogwood tree is in full bloom - yeah, Spring is truly on the way!
I took pics and will post as soon as I can :o)
Best wishes everyone,
love,
Melle
Oh, wait, wait, how could I forget. I want to welcome a friend to the "world of blogging",
Susan, congratulations! I am so tickled for you. Your friends and family will love it!
