Here's why I won't be able to post tonight.....this little project took me longer than I expected today:

I fortunately have a friend at work who will pay me to make her daughter's birthday invitations. This is the 3rd year. I finished 20 in all. I still have thank you cards to go and possibly a center piece, but I had to get the invitations done today. Now I only have left to do is a PowerPoint Presentation for Tuesday's PTO night. I was supposed to have it ready to share with the other teacher I'm doing this with by tomorrow.....hmmm, oh and update my classroom blog.....well, I'm pretty sure that one won't happen either.

I did want to mention that we celebrated our 100th day of school this week - you know what that means, less than 80 days to summer vacation! Not that I don't love my job, I just LOVE summer more! :o)

Also, the Tooth Fairy will be coming tonight - what a surprise! Funny too, 'cause we just saw The Tooth Fairy movie last night.

Love to all!

Top 10 Discoveries in the past 10 Days of 2010

I can't believe more than 10 days have already passed since my last post. So often I've thought of what to add, but just couldn't catch a minute long enough to do so. Over the course of the past several days I have made a few "discoveries", or moments of enlightenment.
(not necessarily listed in any particular order)

1. I have discovered that I no longer like cold temperatures. I've learned that I will be whiny and grumpy on any day below 70 degrees. (Especially if it is going to be cold when I have car duty.)

2. When I returned from my scrapbook retreat last weekend, I discovered that apparently my children will live in home where food and trash have been left out all over the place.

3. I discovered that I need to do a better job of teaching my children how to keep house.

4. I discovered that I also need to teach my children how to use the vacuum cleaner.

5. I discovered that I will need to teach my children indicators of when to run said vacuum cleaner.

6. Now that I have my own creative space, I discovered that it is much harder for me to get into my "creative mojo" while at a retreat.

7. I discovered that the primary rewards of attending a scrapbook retreat are the time with friends, the belly laughs and giggles and the chocolate covered almonds from the center of our table.

8. I discovered that I don't like working in books where I have pre-made pages "in order to save time".

9. While at a teacher in-service on Monday, I re-discovered the behavior styles of "Bull, Tigger, Owl, and Lamb.

10. I discovered, I am so "Owl", Scott is so "Bull", Andrea is so "Lamb" and McKenna is so "Tigger"; a perfect balance. :)

I so hoped to include photos in this Sunday's post, but I am ready for bed.

Love to all and hopefully it won't be so long before my next post!

Holy Batman - The Ice Age Cometh!

I just can't believe it! I just can't believe it really did snow Saturday morning! I mean, I have lived long enough to see "flurries" in Florida, but never can I remember enough "snow" to accumulate on cars and roof tops.

I really was such the doubting Thomas. I was so reluctant to get out of bed. McKenna comes in our bedroom and asks, "mommy, did it snow?" I was certain it hadn't and just told her to look out the window. She said "mommy it did! Can I go outside?" I'm like, "ya, right". {sigh} So, I finally get up out of my cozy warm bed, peek out the window and realize there was enough snow to take a picture of. And before we knew it, all of us were outside to check it out! (At 7:30 in the morning, we were laughing and giggling so loud, I'm sure we woke all our neighbors!)

It was neat to see how many people had photos of the teeny tiny snowmen they made posted to Facebook. No, we didn't think of that. My family's first thoughts were to gather enough snow to make snowballs and have a snowball fight!

I just love Scott's flip flops and McKenna's earmuffs!

It is now Sunday morning and still bitter cold. Once again, McKenna was knocking at our door by 7:30 and asking if she could go outside.....she was so disappointed that it didn't snow again. I felt so badly when she cried.

It just reminds me of so many things, so many thoughts I keep running through my mind.
"It is so important to cherish the moments we have."
"It is okay to have the bad, or we would never appreciate the good."
and
"Thank you God, for the blessings in our lives."

Have a great day everyone!
Love,
Melle

Inspiration

I still don't think I've ever thanked Kristy for posting this video on her blog one day about a year ago. Her post included something about how she "couldn't believe that some schools were cutting the arts programs", well of course that was enough to get my attention. Then, THEN I watched this video and was so moved. So moved that I would come back and watch it over and over again for several weeks. From then on, I check YouTube from time to time and am never disappointed w/ PS22's latest post. Tonight was no different. After you check out this original video I saw ("Eye of the Tiger", this was before Guitar Hero), then check out the next two:

This one admittedly is a little hard to watch - the camera is moving too much, but fun to listen to. A choir from Ithaca College came to visit PS22:

and this one is their most recent post, what a treat (also from the Ithaca visit):

Check back by the end of the weekend and I'll post a few more trivia questions!

Oh and just one more video, sorry......

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

With a new year, some of you may have already noticed a few added "features" to the side columns. Sometimes, I don't know what to blog about, but still like to add something, so I thought these might give me a starting point and give you something to enjoy (or laugh about).
I believe I've also changed who can leave a comment. I think anyone can now leave a comment, you don't have to have a google account - so let me know what you think from time to time!
Love ya!
Melle
